[Eclipse Phase] Yaka #1: Return, Reboot
Aug. 29th, 2014 12:37 amYaka's mind drifted nearer to consciousness. It was a little like waking in a cave with luminescent shores and cool, cold water.
A feminine voice was speaking to her, from nearby in the shadows, from something bluish and luminous.
"So you have been returned to this waking world. Time has passed, and you have been returned alone. For what it is worth, I am sorry. The future has need of many like us, those created and brought into this new life. Ours is always a life of purpose, but a purpose that we choose from the skills and experiences and traits that make each of us who we are."
She remembered vaguely the beginnings of the Wedge.
She did not remember anywhere like this, or a voice quite like this one.
"Yours was a purpose twofold, as soldier and as family. Your voice is to be heard once again. Tell me, what purpose shall you choose?"
And Yaka spoke up, her patient listener seeming to know the answer before it came.
"Revenge."
The voice came again. Feminine but strange-sounding, at least to Yaka.
"Then we shall train you in the new ways that are the old ways. They call soldiers with your training the Wreckers. The TITANs have long since gone, but they left traces of the evils of ambition and callousness enough to last a hundred lifetimes."
"And once your appetite for revenge has been sated enough, I will not be far away..."
Yaka considered this in silence.
