Yaka's companion was looking over the displays of vital signs.
She silently considered comment, but didn't speak.
"No," she thought. "I would have better luck asking the Great Red Spot to stop spinning. I will keep her safe, and steer if she cannot. Motivations this powerful must be sublimated.""
With a subtle lurch, they arrived at their destination.
"The destroyer is now on sensors," she said aloud.
Within fractions of a second, her scanners probed far and wide.
"No lifeform readings aboard. No EM disruption."
"Manual helm control," came the clipped response from Yaka.
"Helm to manual, all weapons loaded and ready, Yaka."
"Comm. One-way with full filter."
Her companion activated the full array of filtering and anti-intrusion measures and toggled the comm in broadcast-only mode." "Done."
"You who stole our bones from the Deep shall drown in the endless Black!"
She thudded the comms closed again, and started a high-speed arc, faster than the destroyer's guns could track.
"Lock weapons on primary drive and keel seams at aft. Full TN breacher rounds. On my mark."
Her companion complied, but could not conceal her startled reaction.
"Breachers loaded and armed," she said, for the first time backing away from the pilot tank.
Yaka's ship passed and pirouetted at the destroyer's portside aft quarter.
"Fire all!"
The weapons thudded to life before the F sound had even finished.
Her ship curved and picked up speed, going up and curving away.
Yaka watched it. "Bonestealers. Monsters. The Black shall taste your ashes," she said through clenched teeth.
A chorus of flash points appeared as the destroyer splintered and was blown in many directions, her stern incinerated on impact, bow split in two as the blast melted all to radioactive slag.
It was many minutes before her companion assumed control of the ship.
Yaka's breathing was finally slowing.
"It's done," her companion said, in a far kinder tone than Yaka remembered hearing.
She silently considered comment, but didn't speak.
